Hey. What’s up, everybody? It’s Brian Dean, from Quick Sprout. In this video, I’m going to show you how you can get high-quality freelance-written content for your site.

The first resource you might want to check out is called Textbroker, which is at Textbroker.com. This is basically a site that has thousands of freelance writers. You just upload a project, freelance writers claim them, and they write the content for you. There’s no bids, no vetting; you just put an assignment out and get your content. In order to use Textbroker, you want to click on I Need Content and setup an account. When you log in, you want to enter your billing information and deposit some money. Once you’ve done that, you can create your first assignment.

To do that, hover over the Assignment tab and click on New Order. Next, you want to choose your order type. In most cases, you’ll choose an open order, which simply means when you place an order; it goes out to all of the freelance writers that fit the criteria that you set in your order. If you’ve developed relationships with writers within Textbroker, you can send jobs directly to them. If you need a really, really high-end expert for a job, you can place an expert order. We’re just going to place an open order by clicking on the Place Order link. Next, you want to give some detailed information about your order. If you have a project already setup in Textbroker, you can assign that order to that project, the category of the articles, the quality level you’re looking for, the turnaround time, the word count. If you have any specific instructions, you can add them here. As you can see, Textbroker is really easy to use. The one disadvantage of Textbroker is that I find the content to be quite generic even at a high-quality level.

If you’re looking for something with a lot of depth or personality, you want to hire an individual freelance writer or a team from a freelance site like Elance. To do that, log in to your Elance account, hover over Hire, and click on Post a Job. To give you an idea of how you should you setup a job posting on Elance or any other freelance site that you use to find freelance writers, I have this little template that I recommend that you follow. The first thing is the name of your job. You want to be as specific as you can here, because the best writers on any site tend to skip over job titles that aren’t very specific or they look like they’re a rush. If you’re looking for 10 articles, you wouldn’t just want to put 10 articles, you’d want to put the word count, because that shows that you’re detailed and you’re going to actually give them detailed instructions about what you’re looking for. Nothing’s worse for the freelancer than a client that’s not clear about what they want.

When they read the description, you’re even more detailed. That just helps attract the best talent on the site but also insures that you’re going to get what you want. I like to put just a little brief description about what I’m looking for, and then I put very, very specific instructions about what I want. The best freelancers on the site are going to read this and they’re going to say, “This person actually knows they want. I’m going to bid on this job.” Then under category of work, you obviously want to choose writing and translation, which is a category that most freelance sites have. Choose the type of writing that you want, which is usually the article writing or blog post writing. You can either set a fixed price, per article, or hourly. In most cases, it makes sense to do a fixed price. Obviously, the more you pay for an article, the better quality you’ll get in general.

As soon as you post your job, bids are going to start coming in, so now it’s time to show you how you can evaluate a potential freelance writer that you might want to work with on a freelance site. The first thing you want to do is take a look at their profile, specifically their overview. You want to make sure that their overview is really well-written and free of mistakes. If their overview isn’t polished and has grammatical or spelling errors, it’s not very likely that the content that they write for you is going to be perfect. You want to click on Read More just to skim their overview to make sure that it’s well-written. Once you determine that it sounds like it’s well-written and that their writing philosophy is in line with what you want, you want to click on Job History and take a look at the feedback that they’ve received from past clients. In this case, this provider has over 1000 jobs and 5-out-of-5 feedback, which is exceptional. If you see something like this, this is a writer that you definitely want to work with. The only variable left is the price. If the price is right, and they have a lot of experience and high feedback, that’s someone that you want to work with.

If you’re looking for an upper echelon of writers, the type of writers that don’t tend to hang out on freelance sites or on Textbroker, you can head over to the Problogger jobs board. Unlike these other sites, posting a job is not free. Actually, it costs $50 for 30 days, but you tend to attract a really high-end writer. If you want to get someone to be either a fulltime writer or a part-time writer, or you’re looking for world-class content, this is the place to look. All you really need to do is click on Post a Job Now and fill in detailed information about what you’re looking for. Unlike freelance sites, you don’t want to just say, “I’m looking for 10 articles.” This is where you’re looking for someone that you’re going to work with long-term. You want to give the same amount of detail, but the details will be different. Instead of saying, “I want h2 tags or 6 paragraphs,” you’d be specific about the type of content that you want, the type of experience you’re looking for, just like you would if you were hiring a new employee.

That’s all there is to finding a freelance writer. As long as you’re very detailed with your requirements and you look at the experience that the person brings to the table, you will have no problem finding someone to provide high-quality content for your site. Thanks for watching this video. I’ll see you in the next one.
