Even if you aren’t leveraging the authorship, you should still consider using it as it can potentially increase your rankings as well as drive you extra traffic.

To show you how you can more effectively leverage Google+, I’ve created an infographic that will break down the steps you need to take to gain more traffic from Google’s social network.

If you are limited to the amount of time you can spend on Google+, I recommend that you focus your efforts on the following:

  • Authorship – by following these steps, you can add an image next to your search listings.
  • Videos – by sharing videos related to your business, you can roughly get 28.6% more engagement.
  • Ask questions – you will get more comments if you ask engaging questions. These questions could be related to your business, the industry your are in or anything else that your friends might like.
  • Post on Friday – there are a lot of people on Google+ on Fridays from 11 am to 2 pm.

It doesn’t take very much effort to leverage Google+. By participating in the community and following the tips in the infographic, you’ll start noticing more traffic in no time.

    Another Awesome infographic!
Google Authorship is certainly one of the best gift from Google for bloggers. . . .

    • Adithya, glad you liked it 🙂

    • Hi Adithya Shetty, Don’t you think both Google + and Google Blogger are equally important. Actually Every Google Product is Equally Important. Both Google + and Blogs are giving equally opportunities to us build a repo between users and visitors. :).

      • You are right Deep. Because works as blogger or a SEO all products of Google is important for you. Actually all the services provide by Google is also great.

  3. Usama Siddiqui :

    Hi Neil,
Thank You very much for the G+ tips. I love your infographic. From now onward I will try to spend most of time on G+ instead of wasting it on Facebook 😛

  4. Thanks for the great info graphic and tips. I think a lot more B2B Businesses are now starting to use Google Plus so this is a great resource for them.

  5. Neil,

Thanks for another post highlighting G+. Check out Dan P’s data-rich webinar for more G+ engagement tips:

  6. My engagement on Google+ is excellent, I’ve grown my followers to almost 250K.

Facebook on the other hand is giving me problems, engagement is so low there.

  7. Justin McGill @ Workado :

Wow – really surprising that a Friday night between 7 to 10pm is one of the best times to post on Google+

  8. It seems the 11 AM to 2 PM is a peak timing for most of the social networking sites. Thanks for sharing this useful infographic Neil

  9. Hi Neil,
Here is my tip to leverage G+ to share.

If you want to connect with another person you have not interacted before on G+, then
    – add him or her in your circles,
    – +1 a lot of his or her posts in a row,
    – and make relevant comments where appropriate.

Your activity will be displayed in that person’s notification feed and she or he will notice you (it will be hard not to notice you because you will be mentioned in their notifications for a dozen of times in a row).

If you made smart comments and a person likes you, he/she will add you back and +1 your posts too.

Thus, the first contact is established. And the rest will be easier.

  10. Sunil Pratap Singh :

Google plus is for quality content curators not for self promoters

Use gif , pics good information links to get noticed

  11. Scott McKirahan :

Great article and infographic, as usual, Neil. For me, Google Communities is a huge traffic generator. Obviously, how successful Communities can be is a a little niche-dependent but I can definitely say that the vast majority of my traffic (and I’m talking ALL traffic sources here) comes as a result of things posted to Google Communities.

  12. Gillian Maxlow :

Thanks Neil for a great “right to the point” infographic. I’m delivering 2x face:face Google+ training sessions next week & definitely sharing 🙂

  13. Hi Neil,

I’m learning so much from you! Another great post, and I never imagined Friday night to be such a good time for +Google 🙂 Thanks for sharing

  14. Patri Hernandez :

“11 am to 2 pm” where exactly? (country)

    Thanks N.

  15. Google plus is the best platform I had ever seen in Social media. The main thing about this platform is that you get more genuine people here as ompared to facebook… Generally i got many +1 on my posts and I love to get a genuine +1 than 1000 fake likes

  16. manujeevanprakash :

    Hi Neil .
Awesome Info , Is there any tool to identify the influencers on google+. do you think google plus is a useful channel for b2b marketing ??

    Cheers !!!

  17. Can I use this strategy to promote my brand page or just my personal account on g+?

  18. Farcas Gelu Danut :

I use Authorship for my website to grow my business. Tnx, Neil!

  19. Some good, simple tips.. I love Google+ but honestly don’t engage much on it these days..

  20. Neil,

Will this logic apply to other social media sites like Facebook Page, Twitter, Pinterest as well ? or do we need to have different strategies for them ?

  21. Absolutely in full agreement Neil. Google+ is here to leverage the quality of search results mainly. I believe Google has a very little focus on Google+ just for making it yet another social network. The main reason was (I think) to get all the metrics in order to assess the quality of a webpage or a website as whole.

    It IS definitely the future.

My funds are – definitely use Facebook and Twitter for your main audience but never neglect Google+. Even if you have very less or no one in circles, hit your post on your publisher page and also on your personal account so Google will take it in account and know that your content is original and yes, so and so stuff was originally produced on X site first. That also ‘may’ help with duplicate content penalties in future (wild guess).

  22. Oops, I meant fundas* (fundamentals) and not “funds” haha.

  23. Jelena Milosevic :

    Again right to the point.
Simple way, you did explain why, what and how to do, to make easier and better presentation of yourself and your own work.

Google+ gives a lot of possibilities for everyone.
My personal favorite is hangout and possibility that it can be immediately placed on youtube, if you want and how you want.
Hangout can be used different way’s for different needs, as presentation, as lesson, as communication with other, that serve for a different goals.

  24. Great post and data about Google +. Just seeing how you create engagement it’s a super example.
And this is one of many coming from you.

  25. Finally, the post I’ve been waiting for! 🙂

  26. Very nice one Neil! I enjoyed reading this. 🙂

  27. Karshim Kanwar :

Even though India is #2 in terms of Google+ users, there are make fake accounts just for the sake of blog promotions.

    +1 for beautifully written article!

  28. Hi Neil,

another good looking and informative infographic that you put together.I think the communities inside Google+ are the secret sauce of Google+.

I am already getting good results from participating in communities, the 80/20 rule applies here I.e 80% value and engagement & 20% promotional posts.

  29. awesome article…!!

  30. Hey, Neil

Thank for the infographic. Using hash tags in your g+ posts can increase user engagement.

    Thank You!

  31. Invariably, the importance of Google + has been re-emphasized in this post. Its good to know that by becoming very active and sharing valuable content in this platform, an increase in engagement can be achieved to up to 281%.

This is massive and I doubt if there is any social marketer who wouldn’t want this kind of result in the short term.

In – the social bookmarking and content aggregation website for Internet marketers, this post was shared and I have also left the above comment.

    Sunday – contributor

  32. Good to know india is at second position to use g+. one thing i am curious about is the authorship. how it can benifit me in increasing page rank. and if it works. i will certainly do that. 🙂

  33. Hi Neil,

thanks for focusing and letting us to know about the power of Google+ along with the other social networks…

  34. After seeing these amazing infogrphic updates. I really want these kind of infographics for my blog but to make or design them is quite tough :P. I have just 69 followers on Google + 🙁 will try above strategies and lets see.

  35. Neil, thank you for this great info. I did not know Friday was the best day on Google Plus, it’s the day I usually don’t spend as much time there. That will change starting next week. I must get working on video’s too. Great informative infograph – thanks!

  36. Another awesome infographic, do you make them yourself? Always great looking and informative.

  37. Neil – I honestly find these resent infographic posts much less informative than your older text posts. Most of the information is useless. I understand these are meant to draw traffic through shares but I’d love to see a good in-depth post once in a while.

  38. Thanks for the infographic Neil, I will get my Googl+ profile sorted ASAP..

  39. Hi Neil, Thanks for the infographic displayed very well. Didn’t know that 98% +1s are images, I will check into using more for my circles. I am learning more about google +. One of the features I like best is adding circles into my circles in a related interest.

  40. Beautiful infographics Neil, my compliments!

  41. Thank you very much for such a great post with so much valuable info. Much appreciated 🙂

  42. Andrew @ :

    Good stuff Neil.

Luckily, I have shared this infographic on my website.

  44. Good share. I could be totally wrong, but I have found clicks from google plus traffic generate higher earnings with adsense. Has anyone else noticed this?

  45. :

Thank You for this usefull infography,A Good post on google + can rank very easy if you provide good information on your profile.
With this infography, you can have Google as partner for your business.
    Thank You Again Bro

  46. Barbara McKinney :

Authorship playing a very prominent role after the release of a new update of Google and while dealing with the second major social media google +, it has become necessary to take care of Authorship content for better search engine optimization. Thanks Neil!

  47. Harleena Singh :

Neil, I read that Google+ is one of the factors considered for the SERPs, and the engagement there is very valuable in terms of SEO.

I won’t hide the fact that for me the interactions on Facebook are more, we well as open and direct. It may be because these are the people who aren’t bloggers and internet marketers who haven’t yet gotten aboard the Google+ bandwagon. However, I’ve benefited from participating in the G+ communities. I hope G+ commenting system will be available for WordPress users too with all its bells and whistles.

It’s surprising to see that 45% users are youngsters of 18-24 group – are they the ones giving Facebook a hard time? Thanks so much for this useful infographic Google+ with tips for increasing G+ engagement. 🙂

    ~ Harleena

    • Harleena, thanks for your feedback. You bring up some great points. I cannot really speak on the FB demographics but I do think youth engagement plays a a big role in those statistics.

  48. Nice review Neil Patel . I tell you, I’m loving your blog more each day. I definitely will be featuring you in a blog post very soon.

  49. It is very useful to know the optimal times for sharing on Google+ .

I have noticed in the forums that a number of people have reported that their photograph has disappeared from the search engine results. Apparently they hadn’t changed anything on their site or their Google+ profile. Have you come across this before Neil? Is there a requirement to have rel=author on every post now in addition to just on the author page?

    Great infographic Neil, thanks.

    • Yes, but in most cases it is due to Google. In which they control when to show and when not to show an image. It’s their call of course and they continually test having images versus not having them.

There isn’t much you can do…

  50. Bank Exams Easy :

Thank you for sharing. I have applied for Authorship, but was not yet accepted. I don’t know the reason, but is waiting for their reply….!

  51. Nishant Srivastava :

Google Plus is good if you have a business online but normally people prefer Facebook for networking..
but we can’t ignore Google+ it helps in rankings !

  52. Neil – curious, where did you get the “300mm monthly active in-stream users” number from? That’s always been a question from Google is how many users are actually active in some capacity.

  53. What specific Time Zone during Fridays from 11 am to 2 pm?

  54. Siniša Sharairi :

    Great infographic Neil!
Thank you for the knowledge 🙂
As Nishant Srivastava said – you simply cant ignore it…
It helps with rankings and with authorship implemented, your content is more trustfull.
Works fine for our blog but this infographic can help us achieve even more with G+.
    Cheers 🙂

  55. Thanks for a great post about maximizing the benefits of Google+

  56. I like Google+ a great deal and use it much more than Facebook. I find, too, on G+ its users are more creative and open to the format – everyone gets involved and responds to comments and posts. Facebook tends to be a narcissistic, self-serving thing where people can grumble and complain about their lives, whilst uploading endless Selfies.

So, from a business perspective G+ is the way forward! It’s really boosted my online engagement, that’s for sure.

  57. Brent Carnduff :

… more than 150%?!? I’m sold. And, I appreciate you continually justifying your recommendations with solid research and proven facts.

  58. I am a regular reader of your blog…u always use a wonderful infographics which makes it interested to read and understand..

  59. The stats in the infographic are very compelling. It’s handy to know that Friday is the better day to share on Google+.
    Thanks Neil.

  60. Google Plus is one of that social network which provides genuine visitors. The best part about this post is the use of info graphics. We as Techcronus recommend this strategy to increase traffic from Goolgle Plus.

  61. I have google authorship enable for my blog but only name appers not the pic.when I check in google structured data it shows authorship is working and there I can see my pic also..what is the prob.
    PS:really helpful article

  62. Michael Volkin :

Great blog, I was doing research on the best time to post about my exercise cards on Google+ and came across your blog, now I am a subscriber. Keep up the good work 🙂

  63. Clairvoyant Psychics :

Pretty sure he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!

  65. hi Neil sir how are you today ? I have a question
    1. how many posts I can share per day ?
    2. In what possible ways we get a policy violation message from G+ while sharing posts
    3. should we use the main headings of our website or do we change it.
thanks and regards your daily reader

  66. Is there any time frame needed in between Posts in each day?

  67. Global Like :

  69. Google + is good if you have a business at the internet but lots of people prefer Facebook for networking..but of course we can’t ignore Google+ it helps in rankings !

  70. I think the best thing from G+ is that all articles shared there are indexed in Google quickly. Also, Google likes showing them in the 1st page. It is very interesting!
My goal is to drive more visitors to my blog and I think G+ can help

  71. I observed that articles shared on my google plus are indexed within seconds. I had to vary some keywords in my google plus post and tested them by typing it in search engine. Wow!!!. Was awesome.

  72. Hello Austin, Yes, its really good sharing about keywords and google plus. Thanks
