How to Leverage Black Friday for Your Business

Black Friday is the biggest online shopping day in the U.S. each and every year. With over a billion dollars in online shopping sales that happen on Black Friday, you would be silly not to try to take a piece of that pie.

Not everyone is ready for Black Friday yet, which is why I am releasing this infographic to help you prepare.

Now that you are ready for Black Friday, one thing you should consider doing is running an A/B test during this mega shopping day. The thing with conversion optimization is that you need high traffic volumes for tests to finish faster.

Luckily for you, your traffic should be up during this day. So, by running an A/B test, you’ll be able to get results quicker as your test should finish faster than normal.

    • Norman, some of the same tactics apply. Make sure you advertise and that you have a catchy headline the captures their eye for a bargain.

  10. All data clearly show the people trust on online shopping. Prediction shows 1 billion sales this year and 72% people will buy something. In India now people started doing online shopping, I hope some day this figure will be same for my country as well. Great research sir.

    Great post and an awesome infographic. In this day and age when marketers make up all kinds of excuses (“fire sale”, “birthday sale”, “anniversary sale”, “I-had-a-baby sale”), it would be a crime to NOT do a sale on the very day that people think of as a right to find a great deal online.

    Some sale ideas…

    * Buy 1, Get 1 Free (really a half-off sale, but sounds better, and you get more in the sale than selling one thing for 50% off)
    * 10% Coupon
    * 10% Direct Discount (no coupon required)
    * Buy X, Get Y (add-on or service) for free
    * Buy X, Get More Of X1 (that you were already getting)
    * Tell 3 People this weekend, and get 10% (social coupon)

    Hope this gets your “sale” juices flowing πŸ™‚

    How early is too early? I feel like there is starting to be a backlash against companies that start promoting Black Friday/holiday sales too early.

    • Heather, this is really a judgment call companies need to make on their own. When I say early I mean be prepared and make sure all your stuff is in order before your launch date.

    And being originally from India (moved here in 2000), it was funny when you said “Indian people are cheap” :-). I totally get that, because back in 1998 when I was still living in India, I struggled with my very first web site that I ever created on Indian Baby Names, trying to monetize it by selling an ebook and stuff. Nobody would buy! Not even when I sold it for $1.

    I was later able to make money with it with through Adsense. Anyway, if you’re ever in San Diego, would love to meet up.
